How to choose the appropriate swimsuit fabric

Choosing a swimsuit not only depends on the style and color, but also on whether it is comfortable to wear and whether it hinders exercise. What fabric is good for a swimsuit? We can choose from the following aspects.

1Look at the fabric.

There are two common combinations of swimwear fabrics, one is "nylon+spandex" and the other is "polyester (polyester fiber)+spandex". The swimsuit fabric made of a blend of nylon and spandex fibers has high wear resistance, elasticity, and softness comparable to Lycra. It can withstand tens of thousands of twists and turns without breaking, and is easy to wash and dry quickly. It is currently the most commonly used swimsuit fabric. The swimsuit fabric made of a blend of polyester and spandex fibers has limited elasticity, and is often used to make swimwear or women's split halves, making it unsuitable for jumpsuits; The advantage is low cost, good wrinkle resistance and shape retention.

Spandex fiber has excellent elasticity and can be freely stretched to 4-7 times its original length. After releasing external force, it can quickly recover to its original length and has excellent elongation; Suitable for blending with various fibers, it can enhance texture sagging and wrinkle resistance. Usually, the content of spandex is an important criterion for judging the quality of swimwear, and the spandex content in high-quality swimwear fabrics should reach around 18% to 20%.

The problem of fabric looseness and thinning after multiple wearing of swimsuits is caused by the spandex fiber being exposed to ultraviolet radiation for a long time and stored in high humidity. In addition, in order to ensure the bactericidal effect of swimming pool water, it must meet the standard for residual chlorine concentration. Chlorine will remain on swimsuits and accelerate the degradation of spandex fibers. Therefore, many professional swimsuits use high chlorine resistant spandex fibers.

2Check for color fastness.

Research has shown that sunlight, pool water (containing chlorine), sweat, and seawater can all cause swimwear to fade. Therefore, many swimwear quality inspections require a single indicator: color fastness. The color fastness of a qualified swimsuit to water, sweat, and friction must reach at least level 3. If it does not meet the standards, it is best not to buy it.

3Look at the certificate of conformity.

Swimwear fabrics belong to textiles that come into close contact with the skin, and require a very complex process from fiber raw materials to finished products. If certain chemicals are not used in a standardized manner during the production process, it will lead to the residue of harmful substances and pose a threat to consumer health. Hanging with OEKO-TEX ® The STANDARD 100 label swimsuit represents compliance, health, and environmental protection of the product, free from harmful chemical residues, and follows a strict quality management system during production.
